Board again

A sustainable system that reuses industrial wood waste in creative community workshops, cutting waste and emissions in furniture production and educating people in building & repairing.

01

Research

In a world moving toward sustainability, the furniture industry still struggles with overproduction and waste. This project explores how leftover manufactured boards can be reused instead of discarded. Through case studies, interviews, and circular design research, the project looks at how reuse can extend furniture lifespans and offer accessible alternatives to fast furniture.

02

Design process

The project led to a series of community workshops where people build furniture from factory leftovers using clear, skill-level-based instructions. By working hands-on with “waste” materials, participants not only make something useful but also learn repair skills and build emotional connections to what they create.

03

Product

The main outcome is the Board Again framework: community workshops where people build furniture from leftover boards using clear, skill-level-based instructions and helpful tools. The process promotes repair skills, emotional connection to objects, and introduces an alternative approach to viewing cutoffs of particle board, MDF and plywood.
